 The Ventura Roof Top Tents are versatile, universally fitting various vehicles including 4x4s, small cars, vans, pickups, and trailers, as long as the vehicle has roof bars or a roof rack. These tents require only two cross bars ideally spaced between 80 cm and 1 m apart, and can mount in various positions including to the side, back, or over the vehicle's bonnet.The tents are compatible with different types of roof setups:
  • Open Rail: Side rails run front to rear with a visible gap.
  • Closed or Flush Rail: Rails touch the car roof along their length without a gap.
  • Fixed Point: Vehicles without pre-fitted rails but with removable tabs revealing screw fixing points.
  • Normal Roof: Vehicles without rails or fixing points, using bars that fit into the door openings.
For heavier duty needs, such as with expedition vehicles, a flat full-length roof rack is recommended, though basket style racks may require a specialized installation. The tents also fit well on pickup trucks using mountain top bars, bed racks, or aluminum canopies, and are particularly suited for adding an annex at cab height.The Ventura Deluxe 1.4 Roof Tent weighs approximately 48kg, which is within the typical roof bar load rating of 60kg to 100kg (dynamic weight limit for when the vehicle is moving). Once installed, the tent supports up to 250 kg (static weight limit when parked).Installation involves attaching the tent to the cross bars or roof rack using a provided fixing kit. The process includes aligning pre-drilled holes on the tent's base with mounting channels, inserting bolts and nuts, and securing with washers and metal plates. What is your most popular model?

Our most popular model is the Extended Ventura Deluxe 1.4 Roof Top Tent + Annex. Many of our customers that purchase this like the extra space inside the annex and also the privacy when coming up and down the ladder.

This setup is best suitable for 4x4s, pickups and vans. This is because the annex flares out and gets wider on taller vehicles. If you have a smaller vehicle we would recommend the standard Ventura Deluxe 1.4 Roof Top Tent or Extended Ventura Deluxe 1.4 Roof Top Tent without the annex. 

What type of vehicles are roof tents suitable for?

Roof tents are most popular with 4WD expedition-prepared vehicles however, our roof tents are universal and can be fitted to any vehicle. We have installed our roof tents on small cars, vans, pickups, 4X4s and trailers.

2 roof bars is all you need, ideally between 80cm - 1m apart. Universal roof bars from Halfords or other retailers are perfectly suitable however, if you are not limited to a budget we would recommend the Swedish brand Thule.

What fabric are your roof tents made from?

Our roof tents are manufactured using poly cotton canvas which needs to be weathered/soaked first before you using it in the rain the first time.

Take out the mattress and then hose down the roof tent all over 5-10 minutes. This will allow the fibres to swell up and expand, when it dries the fibres will then shrink/contract and bind together which closes all the tiny needle holes and gaps within the yarns of the weave.

After 1-2 years, we recommend re applying the water proof coating to the fabric. Fabsil gold is the best.

What is your weight limit and how does the roof tent support the overhang section?

Roof bar load ratings are usually between 60-90kg, this is a dynamic weight limit which only applies while you are driving. When the roof tent is packed down and folded away, it weighs 48kg which is under the load ratings of all roof bars.

 

When you are parked up and have the roof tent fully set up, the frame cantilevers open, the ladder supports the overhang and the base is bolted on via 4 U bolt clamps. The overall weight limit for the roof top tent is 250kg.
